Who is coach Doug?

Well besides being an all around nice guy, coach Doug Arguello is the Cavalry's head of coaching and player development. He helps to make sure the Cavalry teams are working towards producing players that have sound baseball technique.

Cavalry is very lucky to have Coach Doug as part of the organization. He is so great with all the kids, patiently working with them to improve their technique, baseball IQ and overall baseball development.

Besides working with the Cavalry, Coach Doug owns and operates Plus Baseball which provides elite instruction for player development. Plus Baseball is the product of Coach Doug's player development and professional experience.

At age 15 Coach Doug was offered an invitation to the Houston Astros Player Development Academy in Panama and moved on the following year to the Astros Academy in Venezuela. The Astros signed Coach Doug as a left-handed pitcher at age 17 and he played his first year as a professional in 2002 on the Venezuelan Astros Summer League team. He moved up to play in the United States in 2003 with the Martinsville Astros; the beginning of a 13 year professional career. Coach Doug spent the majority of his career as a starting pitcher and he worked his way up through the minor leagues to earn a Major League Spring Training invite and a spot with Astros AAA – Oklahoma City Redhawks.

Coach Doug was also named to the Nicaraguan National Team and pitched in various Latin American Series tournaments and the pre-qualifying series for World Baseball Classic in 2012. As a youth player Coach Doug also represented Nicaragua at age 9 in a youth world tournament in Japan. His involvement as a youth and professional player has allowed him to play baseball in 8 different countries.

Coach Doug has utilized his experiences as a player professionally developed by the MLB and professional playing experience to build his own player development program that is highly individualized and focused on the whole athlete. In addition to his own personal experience, Coach Doug engages in professional development as a coach. He is currently a Certified Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting and a member of USA Baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
